Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies
The Bachelor of Interdiciplinary Studies (B.I.S.) degree provides educational opportunities not readily available through traditional departmental degree programs. Interdisciplinary degree programs are available for which the requirements have already been established (college-planned programs). Interdisciplinary degree programs may be developed with the direction of a faculty advisor (student-planned programs). College and student planned interdisciplinary minor programs are available, as well. Students have maximun flexibility in developing a course of study appropriate to their goals because courses from several departments and schools in the College of Arts and Sciences can be selected. Students may also include courses from other colleges within the university in an interdisciplinary degree or minor program. Note: It is not the function of the interdisciplinary program to pull together an assortment of course work as a last-minute effort to facilitate a student's graduation. A proposal should be planned early in a student's academic program and should reflect a logical, consistent course of study that is based on acceptable and germane student objectives.
