Reentry to Graduate Studies

Reentry or return to active status for the entire university is handled through the office of reentry in the undergraduate admissions division of Enrollment Services.

A continuing student is subject to reentry if he or she meets any one of the following criteria:

  • has not registered for courses at Georgia State during any of the previous three semesters;
  • has been on scholastic suspension after an absence of one calendar year;
  • has been on scholastic exclusions after an absence of five or more years.
    The College of Arts and Sciences does not allow transient graduate students to reenter.

The Reentry Application is available online. You will need to submit a $25.00 application fee with your application. Reentry students who are accepted but do not attend the semester in which they were admitted must contact admissions@gsu.edu to attend the succeeding semester. They must also contact the Graduate Office at mailto: gascas@langate.gsu.edu.

Students who have attended other colleges and/or universities since last registering at Georgia State must have official transcripts of all coursework taken sent to the Graduate Office, College of Arts and Sciences, prior to the reentry deadline for the appropriate semester.

Deadlines for Reentry Applications are:
                 Fall—June 1
                 Spring—November 1
                 Summer—April 1

Reentry Requirements

Degree programs must approve all reentry applications and may deny reentry because of a student's previous academic performance or progress in the program, or the length of time not enrolled. Students missing the university deadlines for reentry must contact Graduate Services directly, care of the appropriate staff member.

Reentering students are subject to the regulations of the Graduate Bulletin and the degree program current at the time of reentry. Any special cases or exceptions to the reentry policy must be approved by the college Petitions Board and require submission of a Petition for Deviation.
